Koinonia 2007 @ Powers
Pat and I camped out with a group of friends this weekend that have gathered annually at Powers County Park since the mid 1980’s. These are friends we’ve known for the past twenty years or so through our various church activities. They don’t all attend the same church but have maintained a weekly Bible study together all these years.
We came up Thursday evening and set up the trailer. Ellison’s and Schaeffer’s came up this evening as well. Nice chatting with them around the campfire later.
Friday is when most of the group arrived. We, however, needed to make a trip back to Coos Bay because Pat had a haircut appointment that she dared not reschedule because her stylist wouldn’t be able to fit her back in for a couple of months! This led to some well-intentioned fun when we arrived back to camp. As Pat walked from the trailer to the central gathering spot she was accosted by several of the ladies all with camera’s snapping away along with a continual barrage of “ooooh’s and aaaaah’s” over her new “do”. This, of course, embarassed her a bit.

Saturday morning a group of twenty or so drove up into the Siskiyou N.F. to take a short hike into Hanging Rock, an impressive rock outcrop on the northern rim of the Rogue River Wilderness with a fantastic view into the lower Rogue River Valley. There just happened to be a newly placed geocache at this location and I used the opportunity to show them what geocaching was all about. I think I made a few converts! It wasn’t the clearest of days but still managed a few nice pictures. This evening was the big potluck with several families coming up from Coos Bay for the day. Michael Smith gave a teaching on “Perserverance”. Great fellowship around campfires afterwards too. Joined the Blackwell family at their fire where we experienced a different version of S’mores - adding peanut butter - was pretty good!
Packed up and left for home around noon following a short morning church service. Stopped for some A&W in Myrtle Point.
