Humbug State Park

Hooked up the T@B yesterday afternoon and took off for Humbug Mountain State Park.  This was where we camped for the first time after getting our T@B - early June of last year.  The park was pretty sparse and we had our pick of spots - actually set up in the site right next to the one we had last year.

Friday evening we just ate a quick dinner then watched a movie before crashing for the night.

Saturday we went south about 20 miles to the Cape Sebastian area where I had a couple of geocaching hikes planned.  Pat has a mid-term exam in her Art History class and needed to hang back in the car to study.  We ate some lunch at the highest point of Cape Sebastian before I headed off on my second hike.  Wasn’t the greatest day for pictures due to some pesky fog and some haze from slash burning activities but we managed to get a few.  Noticed a large number of pelicans along the shoreline.  I got really close to them on part of my hike but it was so foggy that I couldn’t get a decent picture.  Back at camp we took a short walk out to the beach at sunset then came back for dinner around a cozy fire and another movie.  My knees are aching!

Just horsing around with our shadows at sunset on the beach!

Sunday we had a really nice, leisurely breakfast around the fire.  Pat studied for awhile longer while I took a short hike from the campground eastward towards the day-use area.  We got packed up and left around noon.

It was nice to get another weekend out before the winter rains start.  Maybe we can squeeze in one more trip?

Outing #8 (Newport)

What a crazy end to summer and start of fall - too busy to go camping until this weekend!  Took advantage of the predicted break in the rain and brought the trailer up to South Beach State Park.  We are pretty familiar with this park by now.  However, after scoping out Beverly Beach State Park just north of Newport we think we’ve found a new favorite coastal campground!  Particularly after having to listen to some EXTREMELY loud campers near us at South Beach!

Made a day trip on Saturday up to Lincoln City after spending the morning exploring historic Nye Beach in Newport (AND found a new favorite fish & chips place there - The Chowder Bowl).  Pat shopped while I hunted geocaches.  While I was out I spotted an all-black T@B trailer heading south!  Cool looking!

Stopped in Florence on the way home Sunday - ate at Moe’s and wandered around Old Town.

Dawdling Home….

This morning Greg Blackwell accompanied me on a few geocache hunts while the wives were getting up and going.

We both left town about the same time but leap frogged all the way down the coast.  We caught up with them at Waldport at one point so the girls shopped in the antique stores while Greg and I found a few caches in town.  We stopped with them at Cape Perpetua to walk the trails a little bit.
