Heading Out On June Vacation
We’re off to see various parts of our beautiful Pacific Northwest for two weeks accompanied by our almost 7 year old grandson. Hopefully we’ll have time to update this blog with short reports and pictures of our adventures. This is our first long trip in our new T@B RV. No more tents - yahoooo! Gotta hit the road now….

Very First Outing in T@B
Humbug State Park near Port Orford, OR
June 2, 2006
After driving all the loops 3 times we finally settled on a space. Setup went pretty quick. We attempted to put up the awning but gave up - either some pieces are missing or we were just too tired!
Proceeded to assemble a new portable gas grill. An hour later we finally are cooking our hotdogs!
A German man travelling by bicycle stopped at our site and asked to take a picture of the T@B. It was so different from all the “large RV’s” he had been seeing in his travels.
Sat around the fire for awhile then went to bed.

Not a great nights sleep! Tossed and turned alot - we need to get some extra padding.
Brewed some coffee and read a couple of Psalms. Pesky bluejay flew into camp as we ate our breakfast.
Park Host stopped by to tell us that we only have to pay for one of the two nights because today is a statewide free day! Gotta love free!
Left the campground to tour around the Gold Beach/Roque River area. First we drove up to get the ‘‘Sweet Nectar” cache that I couldn’t find before - found it this time. Next was a new cache on the Myrtle Tree Trail just east of the Lobster Creek Bridge - mosquito’s tried to carry me off!. Huge myrtle trees here!
We checked out USFS Quosantana Campground where Pat, Kim and I tent camped 7-8 years ago. No electrical hookups but we liked it so will come try it some day. $10 per night. Ate lunch in the Day Use area before leaving.
Also looked at the smaller and more primitive USFS Lobster Creek Campground. Not appealing!
Pat and I walked the 1.5 mile Francis Schrader Old-Growth Trail. Got the new cache there.
Went into Gold Beach to get some groceries, gas up the pickup and of course, grab a cache! Got one last cache out at otter point as we headed back to Humbug.
Grilled up some veggies and chicken for a big chicken salad dinner. Sipped a bit of dessert wine that Naomi got for us many months ago. Pat practiced her guitar a bit.
Talked with a nice couple from WA - curious about our T@B.
Weather today was very nice until about 6 pm when it started to sprinkle then turned to heavy rain by bedtime. So nice to not be tent camping!

Still raining when we got up! Did I mention that its so nice not to be tent camping? Stopped by a few parks on the way home to see if we want to stay there in the future. We liked Cape Blanco and Bullards Beach but didn’t care for the county park at Floras Lake.
So ended our first trip out with the T@B. Can’t wait to do more…...how many more years before I can retire? hmmmmm
