The Three Cacheteers!
Today Rod joined Darren and I for a full day of caching between Brookings and Crescent City. It would be tough day for Rod because he had cached down this way more than Darren or I - he didn’t get to claim very many “new to him” caches. I don’t feel too sorry for him though because he had too much fun watching us look and taunting us!
Yesterday we were told of a wee little bakery tucked away in a strip mall in Brookings that made great apple fritters. These tasty pastries were goal one as we started our long day. Now with sticky fingers we made a second assault on the as-yet unfound trailsailor cache - Guarding the Nano - before leaving for parts south…..again, with no luck! Dang, hope we can crack this thing before the weekend is over!
Now that we were loaded up on caffeine and sugar…..we headed south. Enjoyed the day with the boys chatting about all things “geo”. We were sidetracked a couple of times checking out a car show and when we got off the main highway and drove through rural roads in cattle ranch country getting very smelly “stuff” all over the car! (Hoping Pat doesn’t read this!).

What a day! Nearly broke my one-day caching record of 56. BUT it’s not about the numbers! Speaking of numbers….132 miles on the day.
Back at camp we went our separate ways but later decided to tackle a night cache on a redwood trail south of town and up in the national forest. That was interesting. We did this one after 11pm because Emeljay wasn’t back from a shopping trip to Medford yet! It was a fun cache to do but I think they could have made it a little longer - seemed rather short and the number of guiding reflectors along the trail was way overkill. I enjoyed the night cache in Wilsonville earlier this summer much more because I really had to search for those little reflector tacks to guide me and it was longer.
