Swearing & Daring!

Two new caches posted yesterday in the Hall Lake vicinity.  Mackie caches!  And with names like Swearing at Cedars and Double-Dog Dare my interest was piqued.

After work I decide to go hunt these caches down.  But I got an email notification that Bad Duck already got FTF on Swearing at Cedars….but not for the other one nearby!  Odd!  So I text him to let him know I’m headed that way thinking he might want to join me looking for the second one.  Turns out he had indeed been FTF on Double-Dog Dare too…but hadn’t logged it yet.  AND he was still in the area!  Well, he wants to come along anyway - just to watch and chuckle I’m sure.  So I swing by and pick him then head for Hall Lake.

Stopped first at Swearing at Cedars cache where I felt like a yo-yo because the GPSr was bouncing all over the place!  Back and forth along the road trying to decide which side to check first.  After a few minutes of deductive reasoning I headed off to one side to look - not really having any luck.  I think Darren was worried I was going to keep him out past dinner time so he subtly “suggested” the other side.  I’m not proud - you don’t have to tell me twice!  Spotted the container fairly quickly after that.  Don’t want to give away too much so I’ll just say that it got even more interesting after spotting it…...

Next, we moved on to Double-Dog Dare cache.  Apparently Bad Duck had bushwhacked his way into the cache earlier only to discover a nice trail - isn’t that the way it always goes?  Armed with this knowledge, we actually used the trail!  As we neared GZ Darren stopped to show me the lovely divot in the steep hillside where he suddenly “discovered” the trail before - up close and personal, as they say!  Nice one!

Did I mention there is a nice little bridge near this cache that makes for a great perch for…let’s say..one geocacher watching another geocacher flounder around in head high brush and briars getting to a cache?  Darren let me go at it for a good 15 minutes or so until I started heading the wrong way one too many times.  I guess his stomach was starting to rumble because I hear this tapping sound like someone’s walking stick on a wooden bridge followed by a smirking “Where ya going”?  Okay, I get it!  Back the other way I go and finally spotted the “dare”.  Using a balanced approach, I had the container in hand quickly.  As I’m signing the log, however, the skeeters started swarming.  Yikes, time to get moving!

Well done caches, Mackie.  Had fun doing them and it’s always nice to have a previous finder along to provide a nudge!

Time for dinner!!!
