South of Gold Beach
Pat and I camped at Humbug Mountain State Park this weekend. Today I wanted to get a group of caches just south of Gold Beach and that would mean two separate hikes - one was for 4.5 and the other was 2.5 miles long. Pat hung back in the car cause she needed to study for her Art History mid-term exam on monday.
Found Forest Above Ocean Below and Broken Tree caches on the first hike. Got quite a workout! Knees started to ache a little.
Pat and I ate our lunch on the highest point of the Cape Sebastian area while taking in the great views. Saw a large number of pelicans down at the shoreline flying back and forth.
After lunch I headed down the Cape Sebastian trail southward to pick up the four new caches that had been placed since the last time I walked this trail. Since my knees were aching I asked Pat to pick me up about 2 miles down the highway where the trail drops down to the beach rather than hike back up to the viewpoint. When I got down to the rocky shoreline I got to see 100+ pelicans perched on the rocks! I could get fairly close to them but it was so darn foggy I couldn’t get a good picture.
After meeting back up with Pat I grabbed one more cache down at Pistol River then we headed back to camp. Where did I put that ibuprofen!!!
Where is my ride back?
