Fun Gnome Series Along Hwy 42
Today’s caching excursion took me to Roseburg - a place I haven’t cached lately. Several new caches have been placed along Highway 42 since the last time I was through that way.
By far, the most interesting caches of the day were a series put out by a new cacher from Roseburg. The Gnome series. Four regular caches along Highway 42, each with a clue inside. The fifth and final cache required using the four clues and algebra to solve the cache coordinates. Clever and interesting containers, well hidden and with unique physical challenges. One in particular had me doing something I should have only attempted in my younger days - that’s all I’m saying. But since Rod of Family Explorer already did it I couldn’t just walk away!
I ended up with thirteen caches for the day but came away from the day a bit discouraged at the number of uninspiring hides in uninspiring places. I hate that I’m so driven to pick off any cache I see on my map - it would be better if the aforementioned caches just didn’t show up on my screen! Hey, wait a sec - I have control over what gets loaded into my GPSr don’t I? Okay, I see where this is going - I have to CHOOSE whether or not to hunt a cache! All this time I thought I was REQUIRED to ............. Well, that’s a relief!
