Excursion to Cottage Grove Lake
When my wife told me about a 4-day conference she would be attending in San Antonio, TX come early August I immediately began scheming about taking the trailer somewhere for a couple of days and do some hardcore geocaching. I finally settled on an area a few miles east of Cottage Grove where one particular geocacher has just peppered the hills surrounding and close to Cottage Grove Lake with caches.
Shortly after seeing her off at the airport early this morning I had the trailer packed and was heading down the highway to camp at Pass Creek County Park just 7 miles south of Cottage Grove. I was all set up in the park by 10am and spent the rest of the day hunting those caches. I was surprised at the number of roads that were paved - I had anticipated more gravel roads. It was quite a relief because I was using the new Kia SUV. Ended up with 17 caches by the time I returned to camp around 6pm. I would have gotten more but I chose to start with the furthest-away caches and work backwards and a couple of them involved some walking due to locked gates. Really nice forest to tootle around in - both the BLM and private timber co lands had impressive young conifer stands growing up there.
Crashed around 10pm after having some dinner, planning for tomorrow and talking with Pat. San Antonio was hot and muggy - I just love the PNW!
