Top O’ The Fern
GBlack joined me this afternoon on a dual purpose cache hunt (well, AFTER he made me help him with some chores first!). Just kidding Greg, I was happy to help and happy to have the company.
A new cache popped up three weeks ago that qualified towards the Fire Lookout challenge and still had no first finder yet! So off we went to be Nos 1 and 2 signers of the log!
Navigated to the general area just fine but as we approached to within 500 or so feet of the cache we could tell the coords were going to lead us quite a ways from the actual peak where we knew the cache had to be located as described. Arriving at the peak and finding things shown in the cache picture gallery we started poking around but couldn’t find the cache right away. Our GPSr’s were both reading about 400 feet away at this point. Greg decided to go to where the posted coords took him (just for kicks). Back down the hill he went while I decided to re-read the cache description/hint and stayed around the peak continuing to look. Finally I spotted the little bugger and whistled down to Greg that I found it. Up the hill he came and because it was a little warm out at this point he pulled out his hanky to wipe his brow…....... hmmmmm, that’s only half a hankie! What’s up with that!........... never mind, I don’t want to know. LOL
Signed the fresh unspoiled log, marked our own coords for the cache location then headed back down to the vehicle.
Greg was able to pick up several caches on the way back to Reedsport as well.
Finding this cache was #4 for Area 2 of the challenge map thus completing the minimum requirement for that area - only seven more areas to go! This is going to take awhile!
