Long Trek on Umpqua North Spit

Awesome weather on the coast so where to go caching for a 2400 milestone? Hmmm… Maybe a FTF attempt on the two new caches on Kentucky Falls Trail? Maybe Blue Horizon cache on those great Coast Horse Trails north of Florence? Maybe another attempt on “I Hate Micro’s #10”!! - ummm, NO, just kidding with that last one!!! LOL

Nope, for this milestone I really need to do Umpqua City cache! Spent some time the last couple of days looking at Google Earth for some alternative routes so as NOT to get sucked into quicksand or wade through chest high slicey beach grass. Decided to use the well-used sand road just a mile south of the parking area and trek east for an inland route using the high sand ridge on the river side of the spit. Good choice! Only got feet wet crossing the mouth of Threemile Creek.

Found the cache in good condition and grabbed the geocoin since this cache won’t get a lot of traffic during winter months.

Total hike was 8.8 miles accomplished in 3.5 hours.
