333 Trail

Maybe this post should have been named “To Brookings and Back” because the hike described below was only a part of a full day of caching from Coos Bay to Brookings. The cast of characters included Bad Duck (chauffeur and attired in rarely seen long pants), Family Explorer (Rod only, supplier of enthusiasm and chief story teller) and myself. We were joined mid-morning by our caching pal from Brookings, trailsailor, just south of Gold Beach for a hike on the 333 Trail.

This trail is so named for the US Highway 101 mile marker located at the trail head. It actually is a connector trail for the popular Oregon Coast Trail (OCT). Roughly, it’s a 3.5 mile looping trail in the shape of a triangle with one tip at the trail head and the base at the beach 600 feet in elevation below.

There are a total of nine geocaches along this trail. Only Bad Duck would actually get to log all nine this day since Rod and I had previously found some of them and trailsailor placed many of them.

Instead of writing a long story about this adventure, I’ll let this VIDEO do the talking…...

Okay, I’ll tell you Bad Duck’s theory about the the trail’s name. He thinks it’s called the the 333 trail because it’s 3 miles long, takes 3 hours to walk and you loose 3 pints of blood! That’s his story and he’s sticking to it!

After this hike, we part company with trailsailor and continued south picking off as many non-hiking caches as we could squeeze in until dark…..at which time we headed into Brookings for some dinner then back home. Long day, fun day…...reaffirmed what I wrote about the fun of group caching in my 2009 summary post from a few days ago!
