Very First Geo’DASH’

This is the log entry I submitted for geodash # GD46-AGIH:

Visit my log - complete with pictures HERE

My very first geodash! I really enjoyed the preparation aspect of this game.
I’ll be hunting more of these for sure!

AGIH is located in the SE corner of Coos County in Section 5 of T30S,R9W in an
area known as Skull Ridge at about 2650 ft. elevation. I accessed it from
Highway 42 (Coos Bay to Roseburg) and milepost 45 where a gravelled BLM road
(30-9-18.2) winds north and east out of the Middle Fork Coquille River up
steep, conifer covered forest slopes.  I drove the BLM road for about 4 miles
to the NE then took a spur road NE for about 250 feet. My Garmin 60C was
telling me that I was about 70 feet SE of that point.  Close enough for this
game but I went ahead and walked to ground zero hung blue flagging and took a
picture (will upload later).  The dashpoint was on BLM ground and was near the
edge of a young (about 15 years old) forest stand of mixed conifers like
Douglas-fir and cedar that had recently been thinned out to about 15 foot
spacing ( a common silvicultural practice in this Douglas-fir region). My GPSr
accuracy was reading 20ft.

I got uncommonly good cell phone coverage in this area and I had attributed it
to my elevation until I drove away from the dashpoint and looked to the north
about a mile and saw a lookout tower (fire protection agency’s) and several
cell towers atop Kenyon Mountain, the most prominant land feature for miles
(will upload a pic later)!  Full bars - I guess so!

After reading a few other reports, I think I’ve described my visit adequately.
I picked up several geocaches along Highway 42 as I returned to Coos Bay.  120
mile round trip.  Gas prices are going to keep me from venturing too far!
Yikes - $2.50/gal in Coos Bay.

First Cache with Grandson

Took my grandson on his first geocache hunt in a local park - Green Acres Romp.  He loved it.

Mt. Adams - HUCKLEBERRIES!!

Celebrating my folks’ 50th wedding anniversary along with two brothers and their families doing one of the things we all have loved for many, many years - camping and eating huckleberries!  We gathered at a little USFS campground (Peterson Prairie) near Trout Lake, WA.  Along with picking huckleberries, we toured the ice caves nearby and found a couple of caches associated with one of the many collapsed lava tubes in the area.

What A Thrill!

Decided to see if there were any geocaches located on the forest where I work.  Yup! (Thrill Ride) This was the day I would be in the vicinity so I loaded the coords and headed out.  Found it fairly easily.  Two down.
